You Can Help Prevent Child Abuse
This pamphlet provides a comprehensive overview of child-abuse-prevention basics.  Tells what to do if abuse is known or suspected, and increases readers’ ability to detect abuse by describing forms of abuse, causes, risk factors, short-and long-term effects, and signs of abuse.

Communities Make A Difference: Preventing Family Violence
This resource spells out preventive actions that can be taken by individuals, schools, child-care providers, health-care providers, and faith community, and promotes a cooperative effort among all.  Readers also get help with identifying abusive situations, preventing mistreatment in their own home, and promptly reporting incidents of domestic violence.

 Ask Yourself:
  •  What are the things I can do to foster good, healthy child development in my community?
  • Am I knowledgeable about the legislation that supports prevention on the local and federal levels?
  • How can I support prevention in my community?

You can find information about these questions on our website: http://www.preventchildabuse.org/

Hello Friends of Prevention,

April is Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month and nearly 500,000 pinwheels have been distributed nationwide by Prevent Child Abuse America as the centerpiece of our new campaign Pinwheels for Prevention (that we informed you of in last month's newsletter). Through out chapters in 47 state and Healthy Families America sites in over 400 communities, Prevent Child Abuse America works to provide healthy, stable, and stimulating experiences for children in communities across the country. Prevent Child Abuse America highlights the fact that we all play a role in raising children whether we are neighbors, teachers, polic officers, librarians, mentors, coaches, or family members. In April, as well as year around, we want to highlight how you can become involved with Child Abuse Prevention efforts in your community.

Engaging Community Partners

Successful family strengthening initiatives involve community leaders, agencies, and famililes working together to make lasting improvements to the community's infrastructure.  Partnerships are a great way to make communities more supportive of families and help ensure family health and safety.  Click here for more information: "Engaging Community Partners".
