Hello Friends of Prevention,
Jobs, household chores, financial pressure, lack of sleep...it's no wonder so many parents suffer high levels of stress. It is important for parents to develop healthy strategies for managing stress and to nurture themselves and their relationships. Taking care of both your needs and the needs of your child is a difficult balancing act. Most parents are inclined to let their own needs slide as they attempt to do everything and be everything for their children. But the truth is that taking care of yourself-physically, emotionally and spiritually-as well as the important relationships in your life with your partner, friends and family is crucial for the healthy development of your child. Why? For starters, because your child will grow up with a parent who models the importance of loving relationships. Beyond that, the important relationships in your life make you feel good. And when you feel good, you have more energy for your children, which makes them feel good about themselves.
In this month's issue we provide you with some resources to help you manage the stress in your life. We also have some great new exciting ways to support our mission. So, grab a cup of coffee, find a quiet corner, breathe, read and relax.
Enjoy!

| Prevent Child Abuse America is partnering with Every Child Matters on the national “Step Up for Kids Day,” on September 16th, 2008. The goal of this non-partisan, nationwide event is to elevate children’s issues as a priority in the 2008 election. On September 16th, advocates, volunteers, and kids across the country will gather on the steps of state capitols to highlight the needs of children and families. Join in and help focus candidates' attention on issues such as poverty, health care, early childhood development, and child abuse prevention.
