Hello Friends of Prevention,
Until recently, emotional maltreatment received little specific attention. The reasons for its omission from most policy and research agendas involved the very difficult practical problem of defining the term, predicting the impact on its victims, and developing effective treatment alternatives. Prevent Child Abuse America has always felt that the issues and consequences of emotional abuse are just as important as child abuse and sexual abuse. This month's newsletter focuses on a range of topics and resources to help you better understand emotional abuse and neglect and some basic ways to prevent it.
We also highlight two special people and their dedication to child abuse prevention. They serve as a reminder that we all play a role and have a voice in creating safe, healthy and stable environments for all of our nation's children. Our children's development is a foundation for our future community and economic development; the building blocks of society.
Enjoy!

Emotional neglect and abuse is a serious problem with serious consequences. It is everyone's job to see emotional neglect when it exists and stop it from happening in the future. This does not mean that life will always be easy for children, or that is should always be easy. We all experience certain challenges in our lives, even as children, and many times these challenges make us stronger people. But every child deserves to be loved and respected and to get help when these challenges happen. Read the facts! |
