Hello Friends of Prevention,
The father-daughter dance at her wedding, watching my son soar over a high jump bar set at 6’9’ in junior high, having my 13 year old tell me why he said “no” to peer pressure, and my talented 8 year old placing in an all county art contest. All of these are examples of the joys of fatherhood that I have experienced with my children over the years. Like prevention, fatherhood is not something you do once, but rather something that takes attention, ongoing concern and commitment. The choices we make as fathers and parents, and the commitment that we make to children, in turn prepare them to be stronger parents to their own children. This month’s newsletter honors our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and caregivers every where who make a difference in the lives of their own children and the children in their communities throughout our country. Thanks Dads, for the job you do every day, because you love your kids.
