Hello Friends of Prevention,
Welcome to the First E-Newsletter of 2007,
In the last year, Prevent Child Abuse has taken considerable efforts to improve the manner in which we communicate with our constituents, elected officials, and other policy makers, as well as the manner in which we convey the importance of TURNING the conversation on the prevention of child abuse and neglect towards more comprehensive and effective ways for communities and systems to provide and care for children and families.
Our “prevention petition” was not only successful (as you will see in the article below), but just one of those manners that we hope to build upon. We want to make prevention a part of ever decision made by policy makers, rather than a part from those daily decisions.
Our efforts to research how the public hears our message and our current efforts to “translate” that message into easily understandable points will be a continuing focus for this year’s activities. I am very pleased that the Board of Directors are providing tremendous support to our effort to formulate a consistent prevention message and to their on-going commitment to opening doors to new venues in which we can discuss those messages.
This organization’s mission is clear; “to prevent the abuse and neglect of our nation’s children." It is in this respect that our monthly E-Newsletter will focus on informing our readers on prevention tips and services, how to speak about prevention, when to speak about it, and to whom to speak to about. Though readers will always have an opportunity to donate via our website, our purpose is to share information. Only once during each calendar year will a direct request for donation be made. It is important that each reader feels confident that we believe information is the best way to meet our mission.
We hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter. We highlight the tremendous success that we had with our “20 days” campaign in which we asked our supporters to sign a petition to the newly elected Congress outlining the importance of prevention in the legislative work that they will be performing throughout the year. We also highlight a brief segment about Prevent Child Abuse America that will be running on multiple cable networks throughout the country. And don't forget to read the important parent tips and informative tidbits along our side bar.
The format for our newsletter will be changing slightly after this month to allow us to better communicate and convey information to you. Stay tuned for themed newsletters that focus on one area of prevention strategies, parenting tips, successful Prevent Child Abuse America programs, or advocacy initiatives.
Again, thank you for your support and dedication to prevention the abuse and neglect of our nation’s children.
