Hello Friends of Prevention,

Welcome to our very first e-newsletter.  Like so many things around us, we are changing to meet the increased and varied needs of our members.  This newsletter will be the manner in which we communicate and encourage active participation in making prevention a part of everything we do, rather than apart from the things we do.

Regardless of who we are, we all have the ability to be a leader in promoting safe, healthy and nurturing experiences for our nation's children. We do not have to be a president, a member of Congress or a wealthy businessperson to bring about a change  that we as a society value, our children.  We all have the ability to influence, lead by example or simply take the time to be a good neighbor.

This e-newsletter is meant to inform and educate, but more importantly to be a reminder that each of us needs to take some action, big or small, everyday, to make our children’s experiences the kind we all would want for ourselves.

Sincerely,
James M. Hmurovich signature

In the Know - Today's Prevention

Parents are an excellent source of support and strength for other parents. One forum for parents to get together includes mutual self-help support groups, such as Circle of Parents™.  The overall goals of the groups are to connect parents and caregivers to other parents in their communities and create supports that build self-confidence, reinforce positive parenting skills, and help parents and caregivers understand that they are not alone.

A round of Applause

We achieved record results with the 2006 Wrigley Start Early Run, held in Chicago’s Lincoln Park on April 22nd.  This year’s event raised more than $120,000 for Prevent Child Abuse America and our partner beneficiary, Voices for Illinois Children, representing a nearly 40% increase in revenue over last year!
